"The Real Estate Sector in Hong Kong, 1997 to 2009"

The performance of the real estate sector, in particular the component industries of real estate development and leasing as well as real estate brokerage and agency, was largely underpinned by the developments in the local property market.  On the other hand, the growth of the real estate maintenance management industry tended to be sustained by the progressive increase in housing stock and recently, also the growing demand for quality management and maintenance services.

This feature article analyses the industry structure and performance of the real estate sector in Hong Kong during the period of 1997 to 2009.  The analyses in this feature article are mainly based on the business operating statistics compiled from data collected through the Annual Survey of Economic Activities conducted by C&SD.  Reference is also made to relevant property market statistics compiled by other government departments.  More detailed analyses by industry are available in the feature article.

For enquiries about this feature article, please call the Construction and Miscellaneous Services Statistics Section, C&SD (Tel: 2805 6424).

"The Situation of the Six Industries in Hong Kong in 2008 and 2009"

The Government has identified Six Industries where Hong Kong enjoys clear advantages and has great potential for further development.  The Six Industries are cultural and creative industries, medical services, education services, innovation and technology, testing and certification services and environmental industries.  Various measures to promote the development of these industries are being implemented by the Government, with a view to putting Hong Kong on a path towards a more diversified economy and sustainable development.

As the Six Industries generally straddle different industries, a new statistical framework has been developed by C&SD for measuring their economic contribution and employment, by taking into account relevant policy objectives, international guidelines and feedback from stakeholders.  This feature article analyses the statistics showing the economic contribution and employment situation in respect of the Six Industries in 2008 and 2009.
