The Secretary for Food and Health, Dr York Chow, today (February 21) visited Shenzhen and met officials of the Shenzhen Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau (SZCIQ). He also toured inspection and quarantine facilities for food supplied to Hong Kong.
On his arrival, Dr Chow visited the SZCIQ and its testing laboratory to learn about the latest facilities for inspection and quarantine of food, plants and live food animals supplied to Hong Kong.
He also met with the Director General of the Shenzhen Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, Mr Liu Shengli, to exchange views on how to forge closer ties and enhance co-operation on food safety, inspection and quarantine work between the two places.
Before returning to Hong Kong in the afternoon, Dr Chow visited a food company and its processing plant to look at the plant's operation and production facilities. The processing plant mainly supplies processed meat products and confectionary to Hong Kong.
Joining Dr Chow on the visit were the Permanent Secretary for Food and Health (Food), Mrs Marion Lai and the Controller of the Centre for Food Safety, Dr Constance Chan.
