HKO offers training course on Interpretation of Radar and Satellite Images
**********************************************************

People are invited to enroll in an "Interpretation of Radar and Satellite Images" training course in late February and early March organised by the Hong Kong Observatory.  The objective of the course is to enable the public to interpret correctly the radar and satellite information available on the Hong Kong Observatory website.

Both radar and satellite pictures are useful tools to monitor tropical cyclones, rainstorms, thunderstorms and other severe weather systems.  The animated sequence of these pictures allows people to estimate whether their respective locations will be affected by rain in the near future, helping them to better plan their outdoor activities.

The course, to be conducted by experienced Scientific Officers Ms Lee Shuk-ming and Mr So Chi-kuen, will cover the basics of radar and satellite, use and interpretation of radar and satellite images, identification of severe weather, etc.

Scheduled on the mornings of February 28 and March 7, the course will be conducted in Cantonese at the Hong Kong Observatory Headquarters from 9.30am to 12.30pm.  The course fee is $320 per person.  Those interested are invited to check out the details and download the application form at www.weather.gov.hk/education/edu03course/course/coursec_0902.htm .

The public may also call 1878 200, followed by the keystrokes 7-5-2 after language selection, to obtain the application form (in Chinese) via fax.
