Prince of Wales Hospital Influenza cases update

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

    Regarding the Influenza cases of a male medical ward of Prince of Wales Hospital (PWH), the hospital spokesperson announced the following update today (April 5):

    One more staff member of the same ward has presented with symptoms of influenza like illness. The staff member is currently on sick leave.

    Since March 27, a total of seven patients (aged from 63 to 91) and two staff members of the medical ward have presented with symptoms of influenza like illness. The patients are being treated under isolation and in stable condition.  Viral test results of all patients are positive to Influenza A.
 
    All other patients in the ward concerned are under close surveillance. Admission and visiting to the ward have been suspended. Infection control measures have already been enhanced.  Thorough cleansing and disinfection have been carried out in the ward.

    The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority and the Centre for Health Protection for follow up.
