Recruitment of volunteers to Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Games closed
************************************************************

Applications for volunteers to the 2008 Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Games closed yesterday (March 31).  Since the launch of the recruitment campaign on March 28, 2007, more than 7,300 applicants were registered on the website hosted by the Beijing Organising Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG).

The Home Affairs Bureau (HAB) has already carried out two rounds of assessment to short-list suitable applicants for BOCOG's consideration.  The third and the last round of assessment will start this month (April).  This will include a written assessment to be held on Saturday morning (April 5).  Applicants who pass the written assessment will be invited to attend selection interviews on April 20.

A spokesman for HAB reminded those who have applied on-line in the week beginning March 24 to become a volunteer, to call Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority at 3628 8191 by tomorrow (April 2) if they still had not been invited to sit for the written examination.

The recruitment of volunteers, including the sending of time notices for recruitment, would be completed by BOCOG in May.

HAB is discussing with BOCOG the pre-Games training and logistic support for Hong Kong volunteers in Beijing.  Details will be available to successful applicants as soon as possible.
