AFCD reminds farmers to report pig disease and abnormal death
********************************************************

The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) today (December 28) reminded local farmers to report any pig disease outbreak and abnormal pig death found in their farms to the department.

"We have phoned local pig farmers and issued them letters reminding them to report any disease outbreaks among the livestock to AFCD for investigation," said a department spokesman.

The farmers were also reminded to comply with good bio-security measures, observe farm hygiene and properly vaccinate their pigs.

"There are reports on the death of two local pig farmers recently, but so far there is no unusual increase in the mortality rate of pigs in local farms. There is also no unusual pig disease found so far," said the spokesman.

"We will continue to monitor the situation closely," he added.
