Caritas Medical Centre diarrhoea cases

    A spokesperson for Caritas Medical Centre (CMC) today (December 19) announced that since December 14, a total of 10 patients (aged 72 to 92) of a female rehabilitation medical ward and one staff member had presented with diarrhoea and vomiting symptoms.  All patients are being treated under isolation and in stable condition.  The staff member is now on sick leave.  Appropriate tests have been arranged and the results are pending.

     Admission to the ward has been suspended while visiting is limited. Patients' relatives have been informed about the situation. Infection control measures of the ward have also been stepped up. All other patients and staff in the ward are under close surveillance.

     The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for follow up.
