Deadline for Equestrian Events trainer-volunteers applications
**************************************************

The following is issued on behalf of The Equestrian Company:

People who want to become volunteers in the 2008 Olympic Equestrian Events and are particularly interested in becoming trainer-volunteers have until the end of this week to apply.

So far, more than 5,700 people have applied to become volunteers.

A spokesman for the Equestrian Company today (December 19) said applications needed to be submitted by Friday (December 22).

Interviews of suitable candidates had begun, the spokesman said.

About 100 candidates will be selected to receive a 78-hour training programme from February to April, 2007. Results are expected to be announced by end-January.

The Equestrian Company is recruiting 1,800 volunteers to help make the Olympic and Paralympic Equestrian Events in Hong Kong a smooth operation.

The role of the volunteers is to complement the work of the full- and part-time staff.

Their prime duties are to assist athletes, working staff, spectators, guests and other visitors during the events in 2008; and in August 2007, when the Test Event will be held.

To support the "green" and "high-tech" Olympics, on-line application is available via the Equestrian Company's website: www.equestrian2008.org.

Relevant publicity leaflet and application form are available from Home Affairs Department's Public Enquiry Counters.
