Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital vomiting and diarrhoea cases

    Regarding earlier announcement of some patients in a Medical ward of the hospital presented with vomiting and diarrhoea symptoms, the spokesperson of the Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital (AHNH) made the following update today (June 30).

     In another Medical ward, five female patients (aged 73 to 88) and one staff member have presented with vomiting and diarrhoea symptoms since June 23, 2006. They are in stable condition and being treated under isolation. The staff member is now on leave and is in stable condition. Test results of two of the patients were positive to Norovirus. Results of the rest of the tests are pending.

     Admission and visiting to the ward concerned has been suspended and measures to restrict discharge activities implemented. Infection control measures have also been stepped up and all patients are under close surveillance.

     The AHNH Infection Control Team has reported the cases to the Hospital Authority and the Centre for Health Protection.
