The spokesperson of Kwong Wah Hospital (KWH) made the following announcement today (June 30):
A 90-year-old female patient and four staff of a Medicine & Geriatric ward in KWH have presented with diarrhea or vomiting symptoms since June 23, 2006. The Norovirus test of the patient was positive, while the laboratory test results of the staff members are pending. The patient died of her underlying chronic disease on June 25, 2006. Among the staff members, two were recovered and resumed duty. The other two staff members are still on leave.
Infection control measures have already been enhanced. There will be no new admission to the ward for the time being. Restricted visiting policy has been implemented. All other patients in the ward concerned are under close surveillance.
The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
