Operation against psychotropic drugs
************************************

Police arrested 15 persons for drugs related offences and seized a large quantity of psychotropic drugs in an anti-crime operation in Mong Kok last (December 22) night.

The operation, aimed at curbing the trafficking and abuse of psychotropic drugs in places of entertainment like karaokes and discos, commenced in early November.

The operation turned overt last (December 22) night after a number of controlled-buy transactions were successfully completed by undercover Police officers.

In the course of the operation, Mong Kok Special Duty Squad officers raided a disco in Mong Kok Road and a ballroom in Bute Street. Thirteen men and two women, aged from 17 to 70, were arrested for drugs-related offences including trafficking in and possession of dangerous drugs.

Police also seized a quantity of psychotropic drugs including ecstasy, ketamine, cocaine, cannabis, and Erimin 5. The haul could fetch about $375,000 in local market.

"Trafficking in and abuse of psychotropic drugs has been always a Police concern," a Police spokesman reiterated.

"In view of the approach of the Christmas and New Year holidays, Police will continue to take enforcement actions against the abuse of psychotropic drugs," Police spokesman said.
